You can, all you have to do is sign up new sponsors. Once again this year, the Race for Sponsors program returns. Here’s how it works:

For every $10 of new sponsorships you bring in, you get $1 worth of credit toward entry fees. For example, for every $600 in signed agreements (and/or checks without an agreement) you bring in, you get a race entry for free. Even though this example is supporting sponsorships, this applies for all our sponsorship levels: day sponsors, associate sponsors, even series sponsors. This even works for you. If you do nothing but contribute $300 for yourself (and you weren’t a 2011 sponsor), you get $30 off a race.

New this year is that the race credit applies only to new sponsors, ones who did not support the PNSCA in 2011. But returning sponsors from prior years are fair game, and of course the support of returning 2011 sponsors is always welcome. Also new this year, is that there is no deadline. If you bring in a new sponsor anytime this year, you get the race credit.

All prizes have no cash value, they are good for entry fees only. The maximum credits that can be applied in a single year is $300 (five races), unused credits carry over to the next year. And if you’re wondering, no, the free entries won’t effect the payouts at the races.

All the materials you need to get sponsorships are at http://pnsca.com/sponsors/info. If you need anything to help in your search for sponsors (such as the brochure in glossy printed form) send an email to sponsorship@pnsca.com. We’re here to help.

Now go out there, get sponsors, and race for free. If you get to the semis or better, it’s like getting free money!

The PNSCA annual banquet and awards ceremony was held on January 21st at Johnny’s restaurant in Fife, Washington. It was a very nice time and it was great to see all the PNSCA members in attendance.

Prior to the banquet the PNSCA board had a meeting, and several topics were discussed, including sponsorship promotions (more on that in a few days). The hot topic was the schedule for 2012, and with plenty of feedback, the tentative schedule was established. Details are still being worked out, stay tuned to this site for the full schedule when it is finalized.

Connie Woodruff also announced that she will need to scale back her involvement as Secretary/Treasurer of the association as she works with her husband Bob in his quest for a Division 6 title. The association is actively looking for a replacement. The duties include registering racers at the races, which has been made much easier with new web tools, and tracking the association’s bank account. If you are interested, please let Ed Hauter know. The entire PNSCA is deeply grateful to Connie for her years of service and wish both she and Bob luck as they shoot for the title.

Greg Pessemier's Third Place Hardware

After dinner, the PNSCA awards were handed out. The trophies were lovingly handmade by PNSCA President Ed Hauter and are absolutely gorgeous.

The third place award went to Greg Pessemier who led the points chase for much of the season, but ended up falling back just a bit at the end. Greg was unable to attend the awards due to a family emergency, but rest assured his trophy and check will be in his hands shortly.

Bob Woodruff, wife Connie, and PNSCA's Ed Hauter

In second place was Bob Woodruff, who fell just short of his quest to make it four PNSCA Championships in a row. Bob made a hard charge at the end of the season, but a late round loss at the season ending double-header at Woodburn, coupled with a rainout for the last day of the year ended his reign at the top of the PNSCA leader board. Nonetheless, it was great to see the perennial champ picking up one of the big trophies at season’s end.

Tom Gresham with the spoils of his victory

The winner and PNSCA 2011 Champion is Tom Gresham. Tom was truly hot during the second half of the season, winning two PNSCA races, and going rounds at the divisional and national event level. Aided by a new motor, Tom was tough to beat and is a very deserving champion. Congrats, Tom!

All-in-all it was a great evening, and so good to get us all together in the dead of winter. We’ve had a variety of feedback on the location, but the PNSCA board was generally pleased, especially with the location right off I-5 and convenient to so many PNSCA racers. If you have feedback, positive or negative, on the location or the event, please post it in the forum where there is a thread asking for input. We have a reservation there for next year, but are very interested in your feedback.

Thanks again to everyone who attended, and I’m sure we all look forward to a great 2012 of racing.

We are looking for location suggestions in the general Seattle/Tacoma area. If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know with an email to Ed or Chris, or even a post in the forum.

A preliminary schedule for 2012 has been drafted, more on that in the next couple of days. Looks like another good year with events at tracks around the Northwest.

In the meantime, let’s celebrate 2011!

In the morning 14 cars made two qualifying runs to set the ladder. We had 8 cars from Washington, 3 from BC, 2 from Alberta, One from Saskatchewan. Dale Hrenko, number two in points, was number one qualifier, with a 8.908. After four rounds of racing it was Mike Seekins and Emmett McKillop in the final. Mike’s .018 rt and 8.978 to Emmett’s .108 rt and 8.942, with Mike getting the WIN!!

After this event the only real change in the top ten in points was Rick Dearinger moving up to the Ten spot. Greg Pessimer stretched his lead over Dale by 64 points. Make plans to join us in Bremerton for the next PNSCA race, neatly sandwiched between the Seattle National event and the Division Six Race at Pacific Raceways. See you there!

On-again-off-again rain didn’t seem to harm Don Sefton’s concentration on his way to the winner’s circle in the first race of the PNSCA 2011 season. Don missed the first qualifying session due to work, but still managed to qualify #1 at the first 1/8th mile contest in the PNSCA’s recent history. Notching a clean 5.75, he grabbed the top spot in just one pass and earned his way into the final. There he defeated Greg Pessemier to take the trophy.

After a lot of rain overnight that chased many participants away, the day turned out to be beautiful and a great opener to the season. With all the input from racers far and wide to run 1/8th mile, we need a much stronger turnout to make it a success. Please take advantage of the much better forecast for Sunday to join us at the track!

Following a great deal of discussion with input from across the Pacific Northwest, the PNSCA has decided to make the season opening weekend at Bremerton a race to the 1/8th mile. Ed Hauter, PNSCA President, put it this way: “We had a number of people who enjoy 1/8th mile racing, for example at Portland, and asked if we would consider it for a PNSCA race. We hope that this change will get more people off the couch and out to race with us!”

This is just a change for the first race weekend at Bremerton in May. A decision on other races, such as the August race in Bremerton, will depend on how successful this opener is.

But we know you need some incentive so we’ve created the first ever PNSCA Race for Sponsors Program. Here’s how it works:

For every $10 of sponsorships you bring in, you get $1 worth of credit toward entry fees. For example, for every $600 in signed agreements (and/or checks without an agreement) you bring in, you get a race entry for free. Even though this example is supporting sponsorships, this applies for all our sponsorship levels: day sponsors, associate sponsors, even series sponsors. This even works for you. If you do nothing but contribute $300 for yourself, you get $30 off a race.

And, as an added bonus, the person with the most sponsorship dollars also gets a race for free ($60 in entry fee credit), and a plaque at the banquet. If there’s a tie, the winners split the entry credit.

All prizes have no cash value, they are good for entry fees only. The contest is open until midnight the day taxes are due (April 18, 2011).

This year brings a new high water mark of 13 races scheduled. The race series remains at a “best of 8″ format, so this allows racers to chase the championship and still miss 5 races throughout the year. We at the PNSCA are happy to provide all these options for racers to race in the series.

Thanks for your support, see you out there this year!
