The event was expertly hosted and catered by Sam & Connie Bacon, Jeff and Hollie Yoder, and Brandon Yoder. The great meal was highlighted by Jeff and Hollie’s barbequing expertise of steak and chicken along with a potluck mountain of sides and deserts!! Sam and Connie’s motor home garage (completed only the weekend before) was the perfect room for all of the festivities.

We had nearly 50 people in attendance, with all of the top 9 finishers in the association.

Our own Earl Cunningham had a .004 light and ran a 9.054 in the first round on Saturday to take home the cash.

It was great for Bob, a Super class racer from the Spokane area, to provide this generous Best Package Bonus. We also want to thank Lew McArthur, from the Spokane Pro Gas Association, for organizing the companion S/G and S/ST event and all his help on same weekend. We all had a wonderful time, and enjoyed the racing at the new track. We all look forward to returning.

The PNSCA Power Punch points series starts the 2009 racing season with a double header at Bremerton Raceway just west of Seattle this weekend.

Bremerton Raceway will have a test and tune on Friday afternoon with gates opening at 3:00 pm, racing starts at 4:00 pm till about 8:00 pm depending on track conditions. The cost is $25.00 for car and driver. For more information, check out Bremerton Raceway at http://bremertonraceway.com

The PNSCA double header will start on Saturday, with gates opening at 8:00 am each day, qualifying will start at about 9:00 am each day. We will get 2 qualifying runs, maybe 3 depending on the car count and the other classes each day. The track will collect $25.00 at the gate each day for car and driver. PNSCA will collect $60.00 each day; see Connie at Bob Woodruff’s motor home/trailer.

In 2008, the first Saturday race at Bremerton Raceway was won by our 2008 champion, Bob Woodruff. Bob has already attended five NHRA events so far in 2008. Jeff Yoder was the runner up, and has already been making laps at the Boise D6-1 event just this past weekend.

In the 2008 Sunday race, Moe Trujillo was the winner, with Donald Sefton runner up.

Make plans to join the PNSCA for this season opener, either as a racer or a fan. Hope to see you there!

Frank does a great job of giving you the mental and physical ingredients that are critical to winning rounds. I think Chuck will agree that going through Frank’s class is a great tune-up for any Super comp racer.

Debra, who lives in Michigan, took the full Super Comp Licensing class. She had attended a PNSCA race in Bremerton and got hooked on drag racing last year. Before attending the school, Debra’s only racing experience was backing Chuck’s dragster into his trailer. She had never have been down a race track prior to strapping into one of Franks unique student friendly dragsters!

Debra plans to purchase her own dragster this year and have Chuck maintain and transport it to the track. She plans to fly in from Michigan and will be a “lock” for the long distance award at the PNSCA events she attends this year — if we had one. Debra plans to complete her license prior to the first PNSCA race at Bremerton driving Greg Linne’s car that she hopes to purchase.

Some of our other PNSCA racers Greg and Darla Pessemier also plan to attend Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School (classroom-only) in Las Vegas in June.

Two of our regulars from the Seattle area made the eventful tow through snow, heavy rain and wind to finally get to sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Bob Woodruff (2008 PNSCA Champ) and Earl Cunningham started out on Friday with the good and bad. Bob’s car worked great after lots of maintenance and installing a new carb over the winter. Earl’s car was definitely not working well, with transmission and shifter problems that plagued both runs forcing a tranny swap Friday night.

Earl Cunningham in Phoenix

On Saturday, first round came early with Bob facing a very tough draw and coming up short on the win light allocation. Earl, on the other hand, was driving very well and made winning first and second round seem easy. On to Sunday, were he continued his winning ways on to the fifth round were things got tough against a D5 guy with a slightly better package.

So now, on to the upcoming D7 race this coming weekend again at Firebird Raceway. Best of luck to them both.
