PNSCA Racers attend Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School

Earlier this spring, Chuck Linne and his sister, Debra Johnson, traveled to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to attend Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School. Chuck was there to take the classroom-only class and give Debra moral support. Ed Hauter also attended.

Frank does a great job of giving you the mental and physical ingredients that are critical to winning rounds. I think Chuck will agree that going through Frank’s class is a great tune-up for any Super comp racer.

Debra, who lives in Michigan, took the full Super Comp Licensing class. She had attended a PNSCA race in Bremerton and got hooked on drag racing last year. Before attending the school, Debra’s only racing experience was backing Chuck’s dragster into his trailer. She had never have been down a race track prior to strapping into one of Franks unique student friendly dragsters!

Debra plans to purchase her own dragster this year and have Chuck maintain and transport it to the track. She plans to fly in from Michigan and will be a “lock” for the long distance award at the PNSCA events she attends this year — if we had one. Debra plans to complete her license prior to the first PNSCA race at Bremerton driving Greg Linne’s car that she hopes to purchase.

Some of our other PNSCA racers Greg and Darla Pessemier also plan to attend Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School (classroom-only) in Las Vegas in June.

PNSCA Racers at the Arizona Nationals

Bob Woodruff at Firebird

Bob Woodruff with Connie Schmoll

Two of our regulars from the Seattle area made the eventful tow through snow, heavy rain and wind to finally get to sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Bob Woodruff (2008 PNSCA Champ) and Earl Cunningham started out on Friday with the good and bad. Bob’s car worked great after lots of maintenance and installing a new carb over the winter. Earl’s car was definitely not working well, with transmission and shifter problems that plagued both runs forcing a tranny swap Friday night.

Earl Cunningham at Firebird

On Saturday, first round came early with Bob facing a very tough draw and coming up short on the win light allocation. Earl, on the other hand, was driving very well and made winning first and second round seem easy. On to Sunday, were he continued his winning ways on to the fifth round were things got tough against a D5 guy with a slightly better package.

So now, on to the upcoming D7 race this coming weekend again at Firebird Raceway.  Best of luck to them both.

President’s Letter for 2009

Welcome to the all new PNSCA website for 2009. I am happy to say that we are starting the New Year with a renewed sense of enthusiasm in the association. We are seeing several new people getting involved along with long term supporters stepping up their participation.

We are very pleased to have Power Punch Performance Lubricants as the series sponsor again. In addition to total series support, their sponsorship also provides support for our year end points leaders.

Next we would like to thank Chris Williams (EMDUB Racing) for all his hard work putting together our new website. Chris has spent most of December and a lot of January designing and constructing one of the best racing sites I’ve seen.

For 2009 the PNSCA President is Ed Hauter; Vice President is John Young; Treasurer/ Secretary is Connie Schmoll. Our webmaster is Chris Williams. The current Board Members are Bob Woodruff, Sam Bacon, Chuck & Diana Linne, Rick Dearinger, and Tom Gresham. The Track Representatives will be as follows:

  • Tom Gresham, Woodburn Dragstrip
  • Rick Dearinger, Bremerton Raceway
  • Ed Hauter, Mission Raceway
  • Bob Woodruff, Spokane County Raceway

We are also happy to announce an expanded eleven-race schedule for 2009. For the first time, the PNSCA will be racing at Spokane County Raceway (June 6-7). The two traditional weekends at Woodburn are still in place starting with the Season Opener (May 16-17) and ending our season at the Fall Classic (Sept 12-13). We also plan to hold an event again at the D6 National Open at Mission Raceway with a single race on Saturday (July 25). Bremerton Raceway will kick off our season with their double header on (May 9-10) and a second double header on (Aug. 15-16). There are no races planned at Pacific Raceways for the 2009 season.

Returning in 2009 will be the same payout based on returning 84% of all the entry fees collected for each race divided amongst the winner, runner up, and third/fourth place. In 2008 we awarded an average of $1400 in prize money at each event from the entry fees and sponsorship contributions (with an average car count of 17.5).

Our hope is to revitalize the association with this diverse schedule. Please get the word out to anyone that can run the 8.90 index to come join the fun. We will continue to give a free entry to any new racer on his/her third race entered.

We are actively searching for additional sponsorship for the new season and beyond. If you or anyone you know is interested in sponsoring the PNSCA, please have them contact our Sponsorship Manager, John Young.

Thank you for your interest in the PNSCA and we hope to see you out at the races, either as a racer or a fan.

Thanks,
Ed Hauter
