Hot Weather and Hot Racers in Bremerton

It was a hot weekend in Bremerton, with temperatures well into the 90s. And there were a couple of very hot racers as well.

Don Sefton and Shelly, All Smiles after Saturday's Win

Saturday dawned hot, and it only got hotter and steamier from there. By late afternoon, several weather stations were recording 95. And it also was a good day for Don Sefton who systematically worked his way through the field to the win.

Saturday's Runner-Up Rick and Gladys Dearinger

Saturday was also a good day for Rick Dearinger, who missed the first couple of races of the year with engine issues, but rose to the occasion to make the finals.

All Smiles, Dale Hrenko Won His First S/C Race on Sunday

Dale Hrenko prepares to take out his first victim, Emily Williams

Sunday was not quite as hot, temperatures only reached the low 90s.  That little cooling off, however, was completely lost on Dale Hrenko who became certifiably hot.  Dale was deadly on the tree all day long, winning three of his four races on holeshots.  He recorded reaction times of .010,  .003,  .012, and .011 — an average of only .009.

Dale Hrenko and Bob Woodruff prepare for the Sunday final

The win was Dale’s first Super Comp win and comes in only his first year in the class. And to get there, he had to take out PNSCA Power Punch Series leader Bob Woodruff in the final, no small task.

Also having a great weekend was Chuck Linne, who made it to the semifinals both days. It was great to see Chuck with a spring back in his step, and going rounds.

Connie Schmoll and Bob Woodruff

By going rounds this weekend, series leader Bob Woodruff put more distance on the rest of the Power Punch Series field. Barring a complete meltdown in Woodburn, coupled with an impressive performance by Ed Hauter or Emily Williams, it appears that Bob is on his way to an unprecedented “three-peat” third consecutive PNSCA series title.

Please make plans to join us for the season finale doubleheader in Woodburn on September 10 and 11. See you there!

The Happy Couple

Congratulations to Andy Morris and Kacee Bootsma who were married yesterday, Saturday August 7 th at The Golf Club at Newcastle, on the Prestwick Terrace in Newcastle, WA.They were joined by nearly 300 of their friends and family with enough racers to have a great drag race.

The Awesome Groom's Cake

All of the racers and families of the PNSCA racers wish them a wonderful life. And some of us hope they have a nice long honeymoon that keeps them away from the track for a while… We need the points.

Cross-Border Fun in Mission

We had a fun weekend racing in Mission over the 4th of July weekend, and there were more than a few cross-border rivalries renewed in the process. USA vs. Canada was featured in the final on both days of the double header, and … USA came out on top both days.

Dearinger and Pople Set for Saturday's Final

Despite a modest turnout, a good time was had by all.  With the weekend being bracketed by the Woodburn divisional and the Seattle national events, as well as many being drawn to family 4th festivities, it was left to the real die-hard racers to make up the field.  But with a number of the PNSCA top ten not there, the opportunity to make up ground in the Power Punch Series was ripe.

Saturday, there nine cars entered going into round one of qualifying.  it was 4 Canadian racers and 5 from the US.  The final count was 4 and 4, as Emmett McKillop had engine trouble and couldn’t make the call. Several racers in the points chase lost first round: Ed Hauter, Emily Williams, and Tom Gresham. In the final, it was Mike Pople from Canada, and Rick Dearinger from Washington, with Rick going to the winners circle with the better .016 package.

Williams Got Her First SC Victory

There was a thinner crowd on Sunday as we had a couple of broken cars, and a few folks headed back to the US for 4th of July activities. Five racers competed, Justin Bond, Rick Dearinger, Tom Gresham, Mike Pople, and Emily Williams. Williams qualified #1 with an 8.91 and got the bye. Round one was Bond over Gresham, and Pople over Dearinger for the round two bye. Emily Williams beat Justin Bond on a red light to go in the final, and beat Pople on a double breakout (8.89 to an 8.88) for her first win in Super Comp. This moved Emily into third place in the season points chase. Ed Hauter moved around Bob Woodruff into first place.

Next race is a single day on July 24th back at Mission Raceway in British Columbia, Canada, during the NHRA National Open event.

Mission DoubleHeader This Weekend

The Power Punch PNSCA series heads to Mission Raceway for its first doubleheader at the track in years.  Mission is a racer-favorite track, and eight-time winner of the NHRA Division 6 Track of the Year award.  For more information on this great place to race, check out http://missionraceway.com

Racers will pay $55/day (CDN) to the track and, as usual, the PNSCA entry is $60/day (US) for members ($70 for non-members).  The track charges $20 (CDN) a day for camping on site.

If you’re looking for a tune-up before the national event in Seattle, this would be a great chance to get some laps in on one of the best tracks around.  And rumor has it that many of the top 10 in PNSCA points won’t be able to make it, so it’s a good chance to make up some headway in the Power Punch series.

So, it just makes sense to head to Mission this weekend.  See you there!

Morris Dominates Woodburn Opener

Andy Morris and Ed Hauter Ready for Saturday's Final

The weather was nearly perfect, if you don’t count the short sprinkle while in the staging lanes for Sunday’s round three.  The track was in good shape.  The turnout was pretty good.  And the weekend was dominated by Andy Morris.

On Saturday, 17 cars competed for points and cash with Andy Morris of Olympia, WA coming out on top.  Ed Hauter was runner up, moving into second place in PNSCA points. New to PNSCA competition was Nick Bresaw of Beaverton, OR who made it to the semi-finals.  Andy was also the winner in the track’s Electronics Gambler class with the same car just minutes earlier.  That made him certifiably on fire.

First time PNSCA competitors Sadie Floyd, Tom Pappas, Neil Schindler, Brian Anderson and Ryan Carlson also joined us for the race. Welcome to the fun!  We certainly hope you all enjoyed it and that we’ll see you again.

At Saturday’s awards, PNSCA Champion for 2008 and 09, and current points leader Bob Woodruff was presented with a t-shirt showing how much the rest of the PNSCA field loves him.  It was all in good fun, and with so many hot newcomers, Bob would be wise to be looking over his shoulder.

On Sunday, 15 cars competed, with Andy Morris winning again and rocketing from nowhere to third place in the points. Don Knoblauch, Sumner, WA, also new to PNSCA competition, was the runner-up. PNSCA points leader, Bob Woodruff of Maple Valley, WA was in the semi’s with Emily Williams of Woodinville, WA, moving her into a tie for sixth place in the points standings.

Sunday’s race was sponsored by Roebeck Custom Fabrication. Mike Roebeck in Sweet Home, Oregon, serves all Northwest drag racers with fabrication, everything from new cars to minor updates, building and rebuilding transmissions, and performance parts sales.

Soon-to-be-Married Andy Morris and Kacee Bootsma

Andy becomes only the third person in known PNSCA history to win both halves of a double header.  He joins the elite company of Mike Seekins and reigning PNSCA champ Bob Woodruff in that illustrious group.  Andy and Kacee Bootsma are planning to marry on August 7th, we wish them both the best.  Although it might be nice if he lets some other folks win now and then…

We are all looking forward to seeing everyone out on the 4th of July weekend at the next PNSCA doubleheader at Mission Raceway in Mission, British Columbia, Canada.  It’s a beautiful facility and a great way to spend the holiday weekend.

Season Heats Up at Woodburn

After great weather for the season opener last week at Bremerton, it looks like Mother Nature is smiling on us again this weekend. The weather looks great for Saturday and just a chance of showers on Sunday. So everyone should come on out to Woodburn Dragstrip this weekend for PNSCA’s  second doubleheader of the year.

The points chase is just starting, with some familiar faces at the top joined by some series newcomers in the top 10. It’s time to grab your spot in the mix, so come on out to race!

Sunday’s race will be special, as it is sponsored by Roebeck Custom Fabrication.  Mike Roebeck and company want be the preferred supplier for PNSCA racers, even before Jegs, Summit, etc.  Mike is a dealer for Strange, Reid Racing, Mark Williams, Fragola, Dennis Taylor Motorsports, and many others and works with a very, very attractive margin.  So give RCF a call, before you call the eastern time zone.

We look forward to seeing everyone, racers and fans, out at Woodburn for a fun weekend of racing.
