Bremerton Racing

Ok, it has been awhile since I wrote any results, mainly because our first race of 2019 was rained out. The race sponsor for the Pacific Raceways race was DG Machine and that sponsor money will be added to the August 24 race at Pacific Raceways. No points were awarded because the track did not even open.

So, we move to the second race of the season at Bremerton Raceway. This race was held in conjunction with the NHRA National Open and eighteen racers bought into the event. The event sponsor was Parker Race Shoppe.

Dale Green, Darral Petitt, Diane Petitt, Emmett McKillop, Brian Schmanke, John Theofelis, Mark Gillespie, Tony Arthur, Dave Thornton, Tom Bachand, Chuck Linne, Greg Linne, Mark Loftis, Dave Secondi, Joe Kapler, Greg Taylor, Megan Gaynor, and John Collecchi were the racers who signed up to race.

After two rounds of qualifying, the field was tight. Three people hit the index with a zero, Greg Linne, Joe Kapler, and David Thornton all went 5.700, but Greg did it first and the made him the #1 qualifier. Snap On tools provided the #1 Qualifier Award.

Then things changed. The timing system decided it did not like heads up, pro light, index classes and while running SST, it gave the left lane the win for every pair. After numerous phone calls to Bob Brockmeyer (Compulink designer), the system could not be repaired, so Saturday’s race was cancelled. Everyone who was in attendance will receive first round loss points and their entry fee was saved for the next event they attended.

Petitt’s had the evening gala event at their trailer with a great brisket. Unfortunately, I could not attend as I was trying to get the timing system to work so we could race on Sunday. I borrowed Pacific Raceways spare computer and we got it to work for the Super Classes. Please let Ed Garfield know we appreciate him loaning Bremerton Raceway his spare computer.

On to Sunday. This race was sponsored by Design’s Unlimited.

Dale Green, Darral Petitt, Diane Petitt, Emmett McKillop, Brian Schmanke, John Theofelis, Mark Gillespie, Tony Arthur, Dave Thornton, Tom Bachand, Chuck Linne, Greg Linne, Mark Loftis, Dave Secondi, Joe Kapler, Greg Taylor, Megan Gaynor, and John Collecchi were the racers who signed up to race.

After one round of qualifying Mark Loftis was top qualifier with a 5.702. Snap On tools provided the #1 Qualifier Award.

Round one started. Dale Green used a slight hole shot to force Dave Secondi farther under the index in a double break out race. Tony Arthur got the win when Chuck Linne went red. Greg Linne got a .000 light, but had problems and slowed to let Brian Schmanke get the win, Diane Petitt got the nod when Greg Taylor went .001 red. Emmett McKillop won when John Theofelis turned on the red eye, Megan Gaynor beat Tom Bachand, 5.734 to a 5.740. Darral Petitt continued his championship ways when Mark Gillespie went big red. Joe Kapler beat Rick Wagenaar on a hole shot, Dave Thornton won when John Collecchi turned on the red light, and Mark Loftis got the bye.

Round two started with Darral Petitt winning on a Gaynor red light. Loftis used a hole shot to beat Diane Petitt; Green got around Schmanke for the win. Arthur used a perfect 5.700 to beat Thornton and McKillop used a holeshot to beat Kapler.

Round three found Petitt over Loftis on a double break out affair. Green got around Arthur by virtue of a better reaction time, and McKillop had the bye.

Semifinal time – McKillop stopped Petitt with a better light, which forced Petitt to break out and Green had the bye.

In the final, McKillop had a better light by .004, but broke out by .001 and Green ran a 5.701 for the win.

Thanks to Design’s Unlimited and Parker’s Race Shoppe for the race sponsorship.

Next race is Woodburn Dragstrip on May 18 and 19.
