Season Opener at Pacific

Well, 2020 is over, 2021 has started and the weather was great for the first race of the season. Pacific Raceways was the venue and there was excitement in the air as 23 Super Comp racers fired up their cars.

This race was sponsored by DG Machine and Low Qualifier Award was sponsored by Snap On Tools.

Racers in attendance – Brian Schmanke, Chuck Linne, Dale Green, Darral Petitt, Dave Secondi, Diane Petitt, Garett Colletti, Greg Linne, Greg Pessemier, Greg Taylor, John Collecchi, John Theofelis, Kelley Cavar, Lane Cavar, Mark Gillespie, Tony Arthur, Wade Archer, Mark Hentges, Ian Theofelis, Jiovanni Collecchi, Cooper Chun, Chris Barton, and Randy Beck. Due to the 5pm curfew, only one qualifying pass was made. Garett Colletti got the #1 spot with an 8.930.

Round one started with Greg P turning on the red light, giving Mark G the win. Chuck then lost to a holeshot by Jiovanni, Dale used a better light to defeat Dave S. Tony put a .004 package up and Wade was in the other lane. Darrel went red to give Mark H the win, Kelley used a better light to defeat Chris B, Randy B drove the finish line better to defeat Chuck. Then Cooper outran Greg T, Ian won against a slowing Brian S, Garett had the bye. Diane won when John T was a no show and Lane won when John C was a no show.

Then came round two. Cooper was the winner when Mark G rolled the beams. Lane came out on top against Jiovanni on a double break out run. Dale defeated Ian; Randy used a .007 to force Garett to break out. Kelley had better light and went 8.906 to defeat Mark H. Tony and Diane had a double break out race, with Tony running closer for the win.

We got closer to the curfew. Called round three to the lanes. The round started with Lane and Cooper. Cooper was a tad late at the starting line and gave Lane the chance to take the win light. Randy then forced Kelley to break out. And finally, Tony had a better light and forced Dale to break out.

So, then the curfew hit and the race for the day was over. The three remaining split the money. They will get semi-final loss points.

Once again thanks to DG Machine and Snap On Tools.

A small “protest” was held at the Petitt compound. The 2020 season awards were given out. Congrats to all and a shout out to Dave Secondi, the 2020 Champion.

Sunday – Sunday – Sunday.

New day, new race. Race was sponsored by Delta Camshaft. Round one started with Mark H getting the win when Chuck went red. Of course, then Chuck ran a perfect 8.900. Marion used a holeshot to defeat Dale. Cooper forced John C to break out. Then Jiovanni went .000 to force Brian to break out. Mark G won when Tony went red, Randy forced Garett to break out. Greg P ran closer to the index to defeat Chris. Wade got the win because Lane went red, Greg L won against Diane in a double break out race. Then Darrel won against Ian in another double break out race. And Greg T was the winner because John T was a no show.

We started round two a lot sooner than the day before. Mark H defeated Wade. Greg L had a better light and ran closer to the index to defeat Mark G. Marion had the bye. Randy and Greg P had the same reaction time, went down to the finish line, and Randy was closer in the double break out. Cooper had the better light and beat Greg T. Jiovanni was the winner when Darral was a no show.

Quarter final time. Jiovanni, who was also still in Super Pro, got the win over Marion. Randy beat a slower Cooper, and Greg L forced Mark H to break out.

Now it was getting to crunch time. Jiovanni was still in SP. But he came around and won when Greg L went deep. Randy had the bye.

Final time. Jiovanni and Randy. Jiovanni was .032, Randy was .030. Randy slowed a bit and Jiovanni was the winner. And he also won in Super Pro. We got done just in time.

Congratulations to Jiovanni and thanks to Delta Camshaft and Snap on Tools

The next race is at Pacific Raceways on May 1 and 2. There will be no potluck that Saturday.
